Causative Suffixes
Kannada has separate causative suffixes which are different from the transitive (the verbs that take direct object) suffixes. The causative suffix is usually added to a transitive base.
1. The suffix isu is mostly added to form causative verbs.
| ಆಡು | to play | ಆಡಿಸು | to cause play |
| ಹಾಡು | to sing | ಹಾಡಿಸು | to cause sing |
| ಹೇಳು | to tell | ಹೇಳಿಸು | to cause tell |
| ಮಾಡು | to do | ಮಾಡಿಸು | to cause do |
It is to be noted that isu is added to Sanskrit nouns and verbs to form transitive verbs. antemāḍu is also added to such verbs to make them causatives.
| ರಕ್ಷಿಸು | to protect | ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವಂತೆಮಾಡು |
| ಪೂಜಿಸು | to worship | ಪೂಜಿಸುವಂತೆಮಾಡು |
